Sailing to save the planet ! The Multi One Attitude Foundation is an organisation whose mission is to bring people together to solve water sustainability issues. Their aim is to use sailing as a means for education, innovation and action on two key water challenges: Ocean and Freshwater preservation.
The foundation has chosen a competing yacht to spread the word as widely as possible that our water is in peril : the first MOD 70 - "Race for Water".

FONCIA goes back to multihull racing…
Yves Gevin, President of the FONCIA Group Directory : “For the 10th anniversary of FONCIA’s sailing sponsoring, Michel has granted us with an 2009 exceptional year, giving us a number of splendid victories. He has showed his great fighting spirit and desire and he has never given up. So, how to go further? By being daring and pionnering: the MOD 70 circuit enables us to go back to the origin of our history with the trimarans while participating in a great and innovative adventure.»

In 2000, Baron Benjamin de Rothschild chose to perpetuate a 100 year old passion for watersports, initiated by his forebears, by expanding his family’s history to multihulls. These magnificent machines have fascinated him for a great many years, as much through their elegance as the technical skill and expertise that is required to sail them. Ten years on, Benjamin de Rothschild confirms his status as a major player in ocean racing circles – and a fervent multihull owner – by agreeing to participate in a new international oceanic class: the MOD 70, one design 70 foot trimarans.
Monsieur le Baron Benjamin de Rothschild (2010 may 21st) “Save for the Gitana Eighty adventure, the history of the Gitana Team has always been associated with multiple hulls. Following the fall of the Orma Championship and despite a concerted effort to provide a future for 60 foot multihulls, we were lacking a circuit. The Multi One Championship partly meets our requirements. Through competitive sailing we hope to perpetuate the family values: transcending ones own capabilities, the systematic search for excellence, teamwork, and an openness to the world and innovation. Ranking among the pioneers of this new class seemed natural to us.”

The development of Spindrift racing, whose vocation is to support and drive competitive sailing projects internationally, is taking shape through the acquisition of a latest generation one-design trimaran, to participate in the Multi One Championship. Through the MOD70 Nr05, Spindrift racing, Yann and all his partners are keen to provide optimum visibility about the ocean planet!
Yann Guichard, skipper of the MOD70 Nr05, Spindrift racing (2011 september 27th): "Joining the MOD70 project is a fantastic opportunity. In a single circuit, I’ll be able to turn all the experience I’ve gained over the past twenty years to good account: Olympic Games, oceanic crossings, offshore races and city races. It’s no longer about sailing as a crew member or becoming a skipper in a racing stable which is already in place. It’s really about being the project manager behind a magnificent challenge. My keenness to get to the start line in New York is now gnawing away at me!"

Already present in the yacht racing environment and the Extreme 40 one-design series in particular, Oman Sail is continuing its global promotion of Oman and the development of marine activity among its local population, through its involvement in the Multi One Design circuit.
David Graham, CEO of Oman Sail : “The MOD 70 will take the Oman Sail project to another level. It is a very powerful boat whose crew will need to have the skill base to perform against some of the world’s best sailors. It will be crucial to recruit the right people to the project and I know we have a number of great sailors in Oman that will earn their place onboard and make Oman proud. It is a truly inspirational project that will provide a platform for our current top sailors compete and develop their sailing skills and inspire a whole new generation of Omani’s into sailing,”
