MOD70 KRYS OCEAN RACE - FINAL RESULTS

Final Scoreboard for MOD70 Krys Ocean Race

The 1st International Race with the MOD70 Trimarans in the Krys Ocean Race has Finished. This can be called a success as the boats, helped by a strong westerly depression made a fast Transatlantic.

The crews were close matched and it was ultimately the better route choice of Spindrift Racing that brought them the Victory.

Sadly to note that two boats suffered damage, Race for Water collided with a mostly submerged floating container, while Musandam damaged one foil on Port side. Both boats could make some repairs and adjustments and continue sailing, be it at reduced speeds, especially Race for Water.

Soon there will be new Races with the MOD70 in the European circuit.

MOD70 Krys Ocean Race Finish in Brest

The MOD70 Trimarans made a very fast Transatlantic in the Krys Ocean Race from NewYork City to Brest.

Within 5 days, 4days 21 hours 8 minutes and 37 seconds to be precise, it was SPINDRIFT Racing that passed the Finish as WINNER of the Krys Ocean Race. Spindrift made the decisive move in the 2nd night of this Race, sailing longer on their Gennaker and following a more Northerly course.

Edmong de Rothschild was 2nd on the Finish just 1hr 11 min after the 1st.
Foncia took the 3rd place again some 28 min after the  2nd Trimaran.
Musandam Oman Sail was 4th to arrive in Brest and Race for Water is still sailing as we speak.
Both last Boats suffered some damage and had to reduce speed.

The Virtual Race in Liveskipper is still on-going. The first boats have passed the gate at Scilly islands and will finish later today. With some 1730 boats sailing in the Liveskipper it is a good thing that those did not interfere with the real Boats.

MOD70 fleet approaching Scilly islands

Musandam Oman Sail has found a way to replace the damage port foil with the one from starboard side and mention that they almost can sail normal speeds again. For each jibe, the foil has to be re-installed in the leeward side however and heavy job, but one that gives rewards with a good boatspeed.
However their disadvantage to the 3 leading boats will be hard to recover.

The 3 Leading Boats with Spindrift racing ahead are approaching  Scilly islands. After passing that gate, they will cross the Channel to sail to Brest; ETA Friday 13th midday.

MOD70's Sailing Fast on the Atlantic

MOD70 Musandam Oman Sail
The fleet of 5 MOD70 Trimarans are making good progress in the Krys Ocean Race. Some boats have reach a 24 hrs distance of 711 Nm. The winds are strong around 20 kts and have the tendency to increase before after today to weaken.

Spindrift racing is leading the pack with about 34Nm, with boatspeeds of 30+kts . Edmond de Rothschild is in 2nd and Foncia in a good 3rd place.
The maximum Boatspeed recorded is 40.7 kts !!!

Musandam Oman Sail, however suffered some damage on a foil and cannot sail at optimal speeds anymore. Like Race for Water they will have to sail to what is possible with little chance to take to the Podium.

To see the progress and location of the MOD70, see above TAB "progress map" , or visit the tracker on the Krys Ocean Race website.
The ranking of the virtual boats in Liveskipper can be  found in the TAB "Ranking" above. And if you want to try out the LiveSkipper virtual Sailing simulator you can register for free and start sailing.
